Lara Akeju

Experienced Executive Coach with over 25 years of television industry experience, including 10 years at senior management level.

I grew up in working class family, not knowing anyone who worked in television. But I was passionate about the power of creative storytelling.

I became a documentary filmmaker, producing and directing impactful content for UK broadcasters and international NGOs.

Moving into commissioning at Channel 4, I developed successful projects with producers from under-represented groups and led the delivery of the Paralympic Games.

Latterly, at ITV, I created entertainment programmes and spearheaded a documentary strand for emerging directors.

Passionate about supporting creative people, I've served on BAFTA's Television Committee and on the board of Directors UK. I'm a mentor for Wonder Women CIC, a trustee of the Edinburgh International Festival and chair of BAFTA TV Awards juries.

As I’ve climbed the career ladder, I’ve faced numerous obstacles. I know how hard it can be to hold onto your confidence and self-belief.

Now, as an EMCC-accredited, ILM Level 7 Executive Coach, I'm committed to helping talented people from all backgrounds to do their best work.
